About this Tour
Departing Cape Town our Garden route tour, travel east to our first coastal town of Gordon’s Bay. As the road swings right and enters the town, magic views of False Bay and Table Mountain can be seen in the distance. Sea and mountain magic continues as the road hugs the coast driving through the following areas, Pringle Bay holiday resort, Betty’s Bay known for the endemic African Penguin colony, Kleinmond, Vermont, Onrus, finally reaching late morning the town of Hermanus.
Fierce competition erupts annually between the towns and villages along the South African coast, where is the best whale watching spot? Hermanus counts amongst the leaders. The rocky cliffs offer breathtaking viewing of the Southern Right whales (August to November). From the rocks on the Cliff Path with a little luck one may watch their antics almost from touching distance. Leaving the town of Hermanus we continue our route toward Agulhas stopping on our way to visit the Bredasdorp shipwreck museum. On the town’s southern doorsteps lie the most southerly edge of Africa.
No traveller will want to miss the opportunity of standing on the most southerly edge of Africa, Cape Agulhas only 40km away from Bredasdorp. The desolate, barren surroundings call to mind the hazardous sea voyages the hardships and deprivations endured by many sailors. Not without reason is this coastal stretch now as a ship graveyard. Nearly 2130 ships have been wrecked along the entire South African coast, 125 ships laid around the Cape Agulhas coastline.
Time permitting a short visit to the Agulhas lighthouse before heading inland arriving late afternoon at the charming and historical town of Swellendam in the Overberg region. Early trade focused on transport, the wagon-makers and smithys. By the time wagons entered the village from the west they had crossed torturous mountain ranges and hazardous rivers. Their battered wagons certainly needed an overhaul and their weary animals a rest. Swellendam is where we overnight.

Cape Escape Tours has to be the best tour you could ever be on. Patrick makes your day. On timepick up, polite, knowledgeable, great driver. understands… read more the client, responds to any request, flexible. Full day tour to the cape of good hope with a great hike to the lighthouse. Had ample time for shopping and lunch. A wonderful stop @ Boulders Beach to visit penguins and a love at first site to see Simons Town. Was sad to leave at the end of the day. Any tour would be great but I’d say full days are the greatest. Going back to Cape Town I’d book everyday with him. Thank you Patrick for being amazing keep on being you as you are simply the best.

I had the pleasure to (try) the “Mini” peninsula all day tour. Patrick met me at the lower table car station at Table Mountain to start the tour. I was… read more his only guest, so we had lot’s of time to chat. Being in CT for 30 years and doing mtb for more than 15, Patrick definitely knows the ins and outs and is a very good guide.
The views and impressions, but also the inside informations on the tour were very special and even though I had to realise I would not make it back to the cable car station (I was around 250 / 1500 altitude meters short…), I still loved every meter I rode.
Patrick was kind enough to go on on his self to get his car, after which he fetched me and brought me to my car.
In a nutshell: Patrick is a very nice and fit guy you enjoy being around with that knows the Cape very well. I can recommend booking him–should I be travelling to CT again, I will do so myself!asseeger
